Everybody eBikes on the road again

Spreading the word about adaptive bikes and trikes across Australia

Back in February, Richard and Andrea headed off with a van full of bikes to the deep south. What initially started as a bike tow between Launceston and Hobart in Tasmania, in the honour of surviving the flood, turned into a mammoth series of trials and handovers across 3 states!

One year on

Back on 25th of February 2022, the everybody Bike shop flooded in one of the worst disasters in Brisbane’s history. It seemed serendipitous, when the bike tow started on the same day, one year on and it was locked into our schedules back in late 2022.

Trials on the way through NSW and VIC

When some of our customers realised we were heading south with a van, we were inundated with requests to catch up. We left Brisbane with our bikes for trials and stopped in Byron Bay, Lennox Heads, Port Macquarie, Newcastle and Sydney.

From the big smoke, we continued on to regional Victoria & Melbourne to meet with new customers & potential wholesalers. We took advantage of the beautiful weather and enjoyed the very well-maintained Lilydale to Warburton rail trails, setting into our Kalkhoff bikes & collecting about 1kg of dust each!

Nothing like a ferry ride to an island off the coast of a larger island

After a very productive few days, we popped our sea sickness pills and headed off on the next phase of our adventure. This time, an overnight cabin on the spirit of Tasmania to Devonport. As an islander, Andrea should have expected a bumpy ride, but the seas of the solent do not compare with the Bass Strait!

Fabulous bike tour

Our tour started soon after our arrival and we were treated - highly valuable days exploring rail trials and coastal vistas between “Lonie” and Hobart. Oh My! We loved the riding but also enjoyed the best of Tasmania’s food and wine offerings. A very well organised escorted tour by “tour de vines” A real mix of adventure, putting our bike through their paces and achieved more than could be imagined in terms of distance, elevation climbed, length and time riding and fun!

Sharing the love in Tasmania - adaptive trikes fit in fine

Once settled back in Hobart, we met with a local bike shop, some progressive councillors, Cllr. Bill Harvey and Cllr. Ryan Posselt and representatives from the local bike advocacy groups including Alison Hetherington from Bicycle Networks Tas.

More trails and in-service with a local clinic, then we headed north again with the temperatures dropping rapidly. After sunburn in Hobart, it snowed on the lakes highway that night! Wild weather and a nervous wait for the ferry say us double up on the seasick pills before heading for the mainland again, sorry to leave the Apple Isla once again!

More trials and handovers in regional Victoria, we then started the long drive back to Brisbane, amazed by all we achieved, uplifted by the enthusiasm of all we encountered and invigorated to refocus back on offering independence, freedom and fun to people who are seeking to ride a bike or trike for active and sustainable transport or just to enjoy life!

Can’t wait for another adventure soon!
