Electric Bikes and Tricycles

Electric Bikes continue to grow in popularity thanks to ongoing battery technology and the development of  new light weight high performance batteries.

An electric bike is designed to be pedalled, it is classed as a bicycle and as such can be ridden on bicycle paths and public roads.

The electric power is to assist the rider. You simply apply the required level of power via a throttle to enable you to maintain the same ease of pedalling as if you were riding on flat terrain without a head wind. Some models are Power assist and you don't have to use the throttle, the bike matches ypuur pedaling cadence.

If you chose to let the electric motor do all the work that is fine but you will reduce the distance the bike will carry you. It is best to work with the motor and important to do so on steep hills and on take off.

In Australia, to be classed as a bicycle, we are restricted to a 200 Watt motor. If you exceed this the bike is classed as a moped or motorcycle with the regestration and licencing requirements pertaining to your state requirements. It is vitally important that you do not exceed 200 Watts because if you are involved in an accident causing damage to a third party you will be personally liable as the vehicle is deemed to be illegal.

Maintenance is low except for battery charging via the charger provided. (Charging does not take place when you pedal).
